ANGI is an enemy in OMORI. It is a shadowy anglerfish that resides within DEEP WELL and THE ABYSS, often seen swimming around in a few areas of HEADSPACE.

PROFILE[]

ANGI resembles a monochrome anglerfish, having a giant bulb on its head and razor-sharp teeth. It seems to be in a constant state of despair, regardless of its emotional state. ANGI is a very odd exception to the SOMETHING enemies, as they are the only enemies that induce fear upon the party despite not resembling anything related to SOMETHING.

STORY[]

The ANGI are first shown when climbing down the ladder to DEEP WELL, swimming aimlessly. These ANGI later vanish from that area once KEL rejoins OMORI's party on either route of the game.

They can also be found in various areas of BLACK SPACE, notably WATER WALKWAY. The ANGI can also be found swimming aimlessly in the area where the party can find DROWNING in the OMORI ROUTE. While they cannot be interacted with beforehand, the ANGI are fightable enemies in THE ABYSS, where they attack OMORI and friends whenever they approach near it.

All skills, unless stated otherwise, have a 20% variance rate. This means they will do between 80% and 120% of their regular damage.

*Only this skill will be used when being OBSERVED . The formulas for ANGER, ENRAGED, and FURIOUS go unused since ANGI cannot be inflicted with any other EMOTION. However, this attack ignores defense when the user is ANGRY, also dealing further damage when ENRAGED or FURIOUS.

Every turn, each enemy will start by trying to use the skill listed at the top. If the calculation fails, they move on to the second skill and so on, until reaching the final skill which is guaranteed to activate. Each calculation is done independently from the previous ones, so the added percentage is not 100%.

STRATEGY[]

Like other BLACK SPACE related enemies, ANGI can inflict the AFRAID status on the party, making them incapable of using their SKILLS (excluding OMORI). It has one basic attack that can cause moderate or heavy damage depending on a party member's stats.

TRIVIA[]

  • In the game's files and data, ANGI is referred to as Anglerfish.
  • Despite having a complete set of battle sprites and a more HEADSPACE-oriented aesthetic, the ones featuring ANGI having EMOTIONS are not used in-game, as any enemy related to BLACK SPACE cannot feel any EMOTION at all.
  • Despite not being related to SOMETHING, ANGI is referred as ??? when battling it, similar to that of minor SOMETHING variants such as MERCI or NANCI. It also cannot be affected by other EMOTIONS applied to it.
  • While ANGI's design does not include the definitive eyeball of SOMETHING, it does however include a reference to the hanging black light bulb in WHITE SPACE by the way of its dangling black light.
  • ANGI has two unused skills titled BRIGHT LIGHT and LIGHTS OFF:
    • BRIGHT LIGHT would decrease the entire party's HIT RATES by 55%. If it was used in-game, the text mentions "Everyone see their life flash before their eyes!" and "??? flashes a blinding light. Everyone's hit rate fell!"
    • LIGHTS OFF would simply darken the screen, allowing ANGI to protect itself from taking damage for a few turns via a "hide state". If it was used in-game, the text mentions "??? turns off its light. ??? fades into darkness."
  • According to an early concept art, ANGI was originally planned to represent the fear of DROWNING but this was eventually changed in the final release of the game. Its name implies that it was originally intended to be a SOMETHING variant at some point in the game's development.
