BASIL'S HOUSE is one of the many areas within FARAWAY TOWN in OMORI. It is where BASIL, his grandmother, and caretaker POLLY primarily reside throughout the game.
GEOGRAPHY[]
BASIL'S HOUSE is the first house shown within BASIL'S STREET, located southeast of the crossroad intersection. It is recognizable by its pale green rooftop and the various flowers and plants surrounding the exterior. This area is also visited several times by the group throughout the game, mostly to check on BASIL and see how he's doing.
Inside is decorated with various plants and polaroids BASIL took himself. The bookshelves there contain books about gardening and indoor-plant care. Despite its peaceful atmosphere, not everything appears to be fine upon first glance. From there, SUNNY and KEL reconnect with BASIL but the flower boy appears to be deeply troubled for unknown reasons. There are only five total rooms, all of which can be explored starting with THREE DAYS LEFT in the evening.
STORY[]
THREE DAYS LEFT[]
BASIL is walked home by KEL and SUNNY after the latter two fight AUBREY at FARAWAY PARK. Before they leave, BASIL nervously asks them to retrieve his PHOTO ALBUM, which AUBREY had stolen. KEL passionately agrees to retrieve it.
Once the PHOTO ALBUM is retrieved, KEL and SUNNY go back to BASIL's house. They meet POLLY, BASIL's caretaker, who offers to cook them dinner. KEL and SUNNY return the PHOTO ALBUM and the three look through the photos together. Afterwards, KEL goes to cook dinner with POLLY, leaving BASIL and SUNNY alone. BASIL attempts to start a conversation, but fails due to growing anxiety. SUNNY then goes to BASIL'S GRANDMA's room, BASIL following him. BASIL nervously attempts to start another conversation, but fails again, this time due to SUNNY not answering him. He expresses concern over his grandma's health, hopes that things can go back to the way they were, and gives SUNNY his PHOTO ALBUM. Then, KEL and POLLY call, having finished cooking dinner.
During dinner, KEL assumes that BASIL must've given SUNNY his PHOTO ALBUM because SUNNY is moving in three days. BASIL is shocked by this news, then becomes anxious and runs to the bathroom. SUNNY follows him, and finds him repeating that "Everything is going to be okay." BASIL asks if SUNNY can see SOMETHING behind him. Interacting with the mirror here shows SUNNY, his SOMETHING behind him, and BASIL's SOMETHING at the side. SUNNY becomes horrified, and leaves hurriedly, causing BASIL to break down into tears.
SUNNY and KEL then proceed to leave the house, after being thanked by POLLY for their help.
TWO DAYS LEFT[]
After rescuing BASIL from nearly drowning, HERO, KEL, and SUNNY return him to his house. POLLY promises to take care of him from there, so the party decides to let him rest. They then exit the house. Later that night, BASIL'S GRANDMA is rushed to intensive care.
ONE DAY LEFT[]
After AUBREY reconciles with the group, they swing by BASIL'S HOUSE so she can apologize to BASIL. However, they find that BASIL is absent, having gone with his grandmother to the hospital. POLLY says she expects him to be back by afternoon. Soon after the party leaves, BASIL arrives, goes to his room, and locks the door.
After the party visits the TREEHOUSE, they go back to BASIL'S HOUSE to see if he has come back. They attempt to speak with him through his door, but fail. Regardless, they decide to be there for him, staying there and eventually falling asleep. Later, SUNNY wakes up, having remembered the truth behind MARI's death. The player then has the choice of whether or not to save BASIL.
TRUE ROUTE[]
Entering BASIL's room will show that he has gone deranged. BASIL'S SOMETHING engulfs him as he talks about SOMETHING, and how SUNNY is a good person who wouldn't leave him on purpose. As BASIL decides to attack SOMETHING, believing he will save SUNNY by doing so, SUNNY's SOMETHING manifests as well.
SOMETHING proceeds to force him to fight against the dissociative BASIL. Near the end of the fight, BASIL stabs SUNNY in the eye with his garden shears, causing him to black out. The rest of the party is awakened by the scuffle, and both are rushed to the hospital.
ESCAPE & SHAME ROUTE[]
Leaving BASIL gives two options, on going to sleep in BASIL'S HOUSE or not. Going back to sleep in BASIL's house causes SUNNY to later awaken to everyone grieving BASIL's suicide. SUNNY then has no choice to go back to his house. SUNNY also has the option to sleep in his house.
NOTABLE AREAS[]
LIVING ROOM[]
The LIVING ROOM is where SUNNY and KEL properly reunite with BASIL after getting his PHOTO ALBUM back from AUBREY. It connects to the hallway located up north of the room. Near the entrance is a shoe rack, some potted plants, and six plants with colors representing the friend group. Between the potted plants and shoe rack is a dining table with four seats.
Next to the dining table is the kitchen, which contains a refrigerator, a metal stove, oven, and a countertop with a sink and window. A lone red picnic basket appears next to the refrigerator, and can be used to save like any other red picnic basket found in FARAWAY TOWN. This is where POLLY usually makes food for BASIL. KEL also helps POLLY cook dinner during the evening of THREE DAYS LEFT.
To the right of the room is a large carpet with a sofa, two bookshelves, a cactus plant, and a wooden table with a TV placed between two “fancy” potted plants. This is where SUNNY, KEL, and BASIL reminisce about their past when checking the PHOTO ALBUM on THREE DAYS LEFT. It is later used for a sleepover on ONE DAY LEFT after the group decides to stay at BASIL's house to celebrate SUNNY's last day in FARAWAY TOWN.
HALLWAY[]
The HALLWAY of the house is accessed north of the LIVING ROOM. In the center are some wooden racks featuring photos of BASIL and his parents, in which SUNNY notes that he never met the former's parents before. Four bookshelves can be seen around the area, as well as a few potted plants and a bonsai tree.
Another notable detail are the various plants hanging on the ceiling, and three doors that lead to three separate rooms. From left to right, they consist of GRANDMA'S ROOM, the BATHROOM, and BASIL's BEDROOM. In the game, this subarea is visited a few times whenever SUNNY and his friends want to check on BASIL. This is also where SUNNY must head before facing the penultimate boss of the game's true route.
GRANDMA'S ROOM[]
GRANDMA'S ROOM is where BASIL's grandmother resides due to her fading health. The room is rather quiet and dark in comparison to the other rooms during the evening. BASIL's grandmother is found breathing steadily in her bed. Between her is a seat for BASIL and POLLY to sit and check on her, a window, and a white egret orchid.
Inspecting the white egret orchid shows a closeup of the flower, with the text box reading the flower's meaning which is often mentioned throughout the game. There is also a wheelchair with an IV bag, a table containing a potted plant, and a bookshelf in between.
On THREE DAYS LEFT, BASIL enters this room to briefly speak with SUNNY, making small talk and handing him his PHOTO ALBUM. On ONE DAY LEFT, however, the bed is empty as BASIL's grandmother has passed away offscreen in the hospital.
BATHROOM[]
The BATHROOM is accessed from the middle door, and is one of the few areas where SUNNY can hallucinate of SOMETHING and any ominous reminders of the past. Next to the entrance is a table containing a book about plants, and two shelves with yellow and purple flowers.
When entering there after BASIL runs off from dinner, the latter can be seen trying to compose himself not before noticing SUNNY. The room itself is rather illuminated with dark-blue light, and viewing the mirror reveals BASIL and SUNNY's SOMETHINGS looming behind them.
Upon leaving the bathroom, BASIL can be seen breaking down in tears at SUNNY leaving him alone once again. Trying to re-enter the room is not possible afterwards on that day. Checking the door to the BATHROOM again leads to KEL wondering if BASIL is alright.
BEDROOM[]
BASIL's BEDROOM is accessed from the rightmost door of the HALLWAY. In the center of the room is a green square-shaped rug. The objects near the entrance consist of a watering pail, sunflowers, a potted plant, and some flowers.
The upper corner from left to right contains BASIL's bed, a small table with BASIL's dusty camera, a window, a bookshelf, a lightbulb-shaped object holding a small plant, and a regular houseplant. In the story, the group visits this room when checking on BASIL after saving him from drowning on TWO DAYS LEFT.
After remembering the truth behind MARI's death and if he chooses not to sleep again, SUNNY eventually confronts BASIL and SOMETHING within this room to save him from killing himself on ONE DAY LEFT.

TRIVIA[]
- When inside his house on THREE DAYS LEFT, BASIL will constantly turn to face SUNNY in every direction he goes. This only applies within the living room and bathroom.
- These mannerisms are shared with his grandma via her STRANGER counterpart at NORTH LAKE (only if the WTF VALUE is greater than or equal to 8) and an apparition of her on ONE DAY LEFT.
- If SUNNY decides to check on BASIL'S GRANDMA before ONE DAY LEFT, there is a 5% chance for the latter to speak "BASIL... Is that you?" upon interaction. This can be repeated as many times possible.
- BASIL'S HOUSE can also be accessed in the morning, only on ONE DAY LEFT after POLLY speaks to the group about BASIL's current status upon knocking on the door.
- Despite tilesets for GRANDMA's room at night existing within the game's files, the player is never allowed to enter the room during the night.
- Opening the refrigerator reveals that it contains cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, and tofu.
- Both of SUNNY and KEL's HEART and JUICE will be fully recovered when they start to having dinner at BASIL'S HOUSE on THREE DAYS LEFT.
- During the cutscene where the group checks on BASIL by knocking on the door to his room, KEL loses 10 HEART when punched by AUBREY over who gets to sleep on the couch for the sleepover.
- The ambience heard during the sleepover on ONE DAY LEFT is much of the same as for SUNNY's HOUSE, but upon raising the volume it features the voice of a man talking about a program that can not copy protected areas of CDs.[1]
- BASIL's bedroom appears as a HANGMAN room upon entering the hole created from collecting the 5th correct key. From there, OMORI can view six photos from the FARAWAY PHOTO ALBUM, all of which have been covered with scribbles made by a black marker.
- As seen in the MEMORY LANE, the plants that can be found in the living room represent BASIL and his five friends. However, they have been replaced by common flowers in the present. Though, the flowers still possess colors representing the main group.
- The lightbulb seen in NEIGHBOR'S BEDROOM is also featured within BASIL's bedroom.
- Upon close inspection, the designs shown on the blankets the group uses for the sleepover correlates with their respective HEADSPACE counterparts' designs. Note that the daytime versions aren't used anywhere in the game:
- SUNNY's blanket features black and white stripes, matching OMORI's color scheme.
- KEL's blanket has various multicolored squares, resembling his HEADSPACE self's tank top outfit.
- AUBREY's blanket is colored teal blue with various small bows, much like her HEADSPACE counterpart's outfit and the pink bow on her hair.
- HERO's blanket has blue and white stripes, matching his HEADSPACE counterpart's pajamas in terms of color and design.
- SUNNY can throw up at the toilet in BASIL'S HOUSE. This can only be done on the night of ONE DAY LEFT. SUNNY is still able to throw up after seeing BASIL's corpse, even when he had done it once before that.
- Unlike during the PROLOGUE, throwing up in BASIL'S HOUSE will not reduce SUNNY's HEART.
