FRIENDS PLAYGROUND is one of the many locations found within BLACK SPACE in OMORI. It is the last BLACK SPACE area before entering the CHURCH OF SOMETHING.
GEOGRAPHY[]
FRIENDS PLAYGROUND takes on the appearance of a colorful room identical to that of NEIGHBOR'S ROOM, but stretched vertically and filled with various distorted objects that seem to glitch in and out of reality. The entire pathway as a whole is greatly corrupted and the objects featured are all from various HEADSPACE locations.
The only characters OMORI can interact with in this area other than BASIL are distorted versions of AUBREY, KEL, and HERO. Unlike the ones that accompany him throughout the game, these ones are inhumane and unsettling, as evidenced by their murder of BASIL.
STORY[]
When OMORI enters this room, he finds himself in a long pathway resembling NEIGHBOR'S ROOM as mentioned before. After heading north, OMORI finds BASIL, who is shown looking through his PHOTO ALBUM. Upon noticing OMORI, BASIL expresses relief while apologizing for having to constantly be saved by him all the time. Regardless, BASIL will start to follow OMORI as they continue north. The player can choose to interact with a swing set, leading to a short cutscene where OMORI and BASIL are shown sitting on the swings.
While continuing to walk, BASIL tells OMORI that even though he felt scared being alone in BLACK SPACE, the PHOTO ALBUM helped him remain optimistic. He notes that there might be some photos missing but switches topic to wanting to see their friends again. The two eventually find HERO walking up to a tree. BASIL calls out to him but the latter doesn't respond. HERO then heads north, leading to OMORI and BASIL following him.
As the three head further north, the surroundings around them become more corrupted until they hit a gap in the ground. A group of RED HANDS form a bridge to allow HERO to walk over to the other side. BASIL follows him, leaving OMORI with no choice but to follow behind. They then meet up with their friends within a corrupted version of the FOREST PLAYGROUND with the BIG YELLOW CAT watching over them. BASIL tries talking to them but they all start attacking him upon HERO blowing his whistle. KEL and AUBREY begin their brutal onslaught of BASIL, killing him in the process.
After BASIL dies, the player can interact with HERO, KEL, and AUBREY to hear dialogue from the beginning of the game, except their portraits are distorted. Going back south by following red footprints will reveal the key. After collecting the key, several RED HANDS will spawn and interacting with them will take OMORI back to the center hub of BLACK SPACE.

- FRIENDS PLAYGROUND is one of the ten optional BLACK SPACE areas the player can explore. It is also one of the few areas where BASIL can be found.
- The BIG YELLOW CAT found in this area appears to be a twisted, distorted version of the original variant. This variant cannot be interacted with as it is simply just part of the area's background.
- The BGM used for FRIENDS PLAYGROUND sounds identical to the BGM played in the NEIGHBOR'S ROOM. However, the last few notes of this area's BGM appears to be slightly distorted and warped.
- Originally, AUBREY was meant to have blood splattered on her body when killing BASIL according to a set of scrapped sprites meant for this location. The final game instead uses the usual tag animation that AUBREY normally uses in gameplay.[1]
- The slide was originally able to be played on, but the events have been removed due to some bugs.
- HERO blowing a whistle references his original tag ability in the 2018 demo, where he had the ability to blow a whistle and call an assistant who will help the party resolve a puzzle. This ability is also shown briefly in the JUNKYARD when HERO summons EMS for help.
- Within the corrupted part of the room, a tentacle can be found, similar to the original NEIGHBOR'S ROOM. However, it does not display any text when interacted with.

- ↑ The file "$DW_AUBREY_BLOOD" depicts a bloody version of AUBREY after murdering BASIL. These sprites are unused in the final game for unexplained reasons.
