SUNNY'S HOUSE is one of the many areas within FARAWAY TOWN in OMORI. It is where SUNNY primarily resides and starts his routine during his last three days in his hometown.

GEOGRAPHY

Sunny's House Location

SUNNY’S HOUSE is the first house within FARAWAY TOWN that the player has access to, located at SUNNY'S STREET. It is recognizable by its beige-colored upper tiles, a green doormat, and a red picnic basket lying beside the door. A lone beige pinwheel is notably shown next to the house, representing SUNNY himself. A "FOR SALE" sign with a big, red "SOLD" sticker on it is placed in front of the house, as it has already been sold. LUCAS can also be found sitting on top of the roof during the morning segment of TWO DAYS LEFT.

The inside of the house is largely vacant due to most of the objects inside being stored into cardboard boxes, as SUNNY'S MOM has planned to take her son to move away to the big city. Throughout the story, SUNNY will occasionally experience hallucinations inside the house, mostly in the form of SOMETHING haunting him in different forms. It is only the REAL WORLD location explored if SUNNY chooses to remain indoors doing his chores for his remaining three days on the alternate route.

BACKGROUND

Once, in a heated argument on the day of the piano recital, SUNNY pushed MARI down the stairs, accidentally killing her. In shock, SUNNY takes her to her bed, and BASIL soon arrives.

Horrified, BASIL convinces SUNNY to stage it as a suicide, making it look like she hung herself on a tree in the backyard. Sometime after her death, SUNNY's father chopped down the tree, leaving a stump, and seemingly disowning SUNNY as his son before leaving. Some four years later, SUNNY'S MOM decided to move for unknown reasons.

STORY

PROLOGUE

SUNNY wakes up in the middle of the night, feeling hungry. His mother had written a note on the side of his bed to go down stairs to get steak from the kitchen. When SUNNY reaches the stairs, he shakes his head, feeling dizzy, and takes a nap.

When SUNNY wakes up, his stomach grumbles and he goes outside to get some food. However, he begins hallucinating, envisioning red light coming through the window, and an elongated staircase with hands reaching up the adjacent walls. As SUNNY goes down, he hallucinates a circle of hands pointing at him, as well as a large hand following him. After a few seconds pass, the large hand behind him speeds up and grabs him which starts combat with SOMETHING IN THE DARK. After several ineffectual attacks, a voice teaches SUNNY the skill CALM DOWN which can be used to end the battle. After defeating SOMETHING, the house returns to normal.

SUNNY then prepares and eats the steak, but throws up after eating it. After this, a knock on the door is heard. Answering the door leads to MARI telling SUNNY she lost her keys and needs him to open the door. If SUNNY doesn't open the door, MARI will remark she is cold. If SUNNY complies, it is revealed to be a distorted figure of MARI which he also hallucinates. If SUNNY checks the mirror after opening the door, HELLMARI will appear the first time he does so. Regardless, SUNNY goes back to sleep afterwards.

SUNNY ROUTE

THREE DAYS LEFT

Upon waking up and going downstairs, SUNNY will hear KEL knocking on the door. Opening the door will allow the player to progress towards the SUNNY ROUTE, while not doing so will lead the player to the OMORI ROUTE.

SUNNY will go outside with KEL, and return home in the night. When he opens the door, he envisions the house covered in spiders, and the staircase elongated as once before. As he goes up, he hallucinates multiple large spider legs lunging at him from the walls, as well as being surrounded by a circle of spider legs. At the top, SOMETHING appears, but fades out to MARI's spirit upon being interacted with, who then vanishes as SOMETHING IN THE WALLS descends.

After a few turns, SUNNY learns FOCUS from the same voice, ending the battle and returning the house to normal. Checking the bathroom mirror the first time after this battle will yield SOMETHING behind him. Checking the fridge afterwards will cause the screen to black out briefly, revealing MARI's spirit behind him. When going to sleep, a faint vision of MARI's spirit can be seen.

TWO DAYS LEFT

SUNNY goes out with KEL, and again returns in the night, this time accompanied by HERO and KEL for a sleepover. HERO reminisces over memories and plays a few notes on the piano. HERO then comments the piano is clean due to SUNNY, and the two brothers set up a bed fort and go to sleep. If SUNNY enters his parents' room, a brief vision of MARI's spirit can be seen before she fades away. SUNNY then goes to sleep.

After waking up from BLACK SPACE, SUNNY hears piano music coming from downstairs. He then sees MARI's spirit, who tells him that waltzes were her favorite. She goes on to talk about how SUNNY didn't like how she practiced the piano a lot, and repeated practice eventually drove him away from the violin. She muses about whether she pushed him too hard, apologizes, and asks him if he wanted to play the recital with her. HERO will then enter, causing MARI to vanish.

HERO will comment that he heard music, and recognizes that both came to the piano room due to them missing MARI. He will then cry over the piano, while SUNNY has no choice but to go to sleep. The first time checking the mirror after this scene will show MARI's spirit behind SUNNY. After talking to MARI, the player can also go into the backyard for the first time, but SUNNY refuses to go past the tree stump due to the presence of SOMETHING.

ONE DAY LEFT

Before SUNNY wakes up, HERO completes all of SUNNY's chores, as well as cook breakfast. Upon SUNNY getting up and eating breakfast, a knock on the door will come. KEL will then get it, spitting out his food in surprise. The person is revealed to be KIM, who is worried about AUBREY's lack of response. HERO will then persuade KEL to take the group to reconcile with AUBREY.

The group, now with AUBREY, will return in the afternoon to visit the TREEHOUSE. Inside the house, AUBREY attempts to tell SUNNY something, but breaks off. The group then recollects the day of the recital, and MARI's supposed suicide. Inside the TREEHOUSE, they reminisce further, and find the last photo missing from the PHOTO ALBUM. AUBREY then becomes overcome with emotion, and runs out of the treehouse. Outside, she apologizes for her actions, as well as sharing the reasons for why she tormented BASIL, now realizing she was wrong to do so. The group then engages in a collective hug, and leaves SUNNY'S HOUSE to go to BASIL'S HOUSE.

If SUNNY goes back to his house after waking up at BASIL's, it will trigger a NEUTRAL ENDING. Alternatively, if goes back to sleep there instead of confronting BASIL, he will have no choice but to return to his house after the latter's suicide. Doing this will also reveal a vision of a mutilated version of SUNNY standing on the stairs.

OMORI ROUTE

THREE DAYS LEFT

Upon waking up and going downstairs, SUNNY will hear KEL knocking on the door. Opening the door will allow the player to progress towards the SUNNY ROUTE, while not doing so will take the player on the OMORI ROUTE.

SUNNY will take a nap, partially advancing the day, and spend time completing his chores. While sweeping the house SUNNY envisions the house covered in spiders, and the staircase elongated as once before. TWO DAYS LEFT

SUNNY will continue to do chores. While taking a bath after them, he hallucinates himself in his house, but this time it is filled with water. He is guided downstairs by MARI's spirit, imagining the shadow of long kelp encroaching above him. MARI leads him to a steak knife before disappearing, revealing a grotesque face below SUNNY.

This starts the battle with SOMETHING IN THE WATER. The same voice will teach SUNNY to PERSIST, ending the hallucination, and returning the house to normal. SUNNY will then go to sleep in his bed.

ONE DAY LEFT

SUNNY will further complete chores, while getting overwhelmed by visions of SOMETHING. After going to sleep, OMORI "saves" him from his despair. SUNNY is then free to explore HEADSPACE at his leisure without waking up, though stabbing himself in WHITE SPACE will wake him up and trigger a neutral ending in which he moves away in his mother's car, being followed by SOMETHING all the while.

NOTABLE AREAS

LIVING ROOM

Sunny's Living Room (Screenshot)

The LIVING ROOM is accessed through the front door of the house. It features a stained rug, a window, a fireplace, and a clock. Stacks of cardboard boxes are prominently shown as moving day for SUNNY is fast approaching. It also has five doorways that lead to various areas of SUNNY'S HOUSE.

The lower left doorway leads to the DINING ROOM, the upper left doorway connects to the KITCHEN, and the upper doorway leads to the STAIRCASE of the house. Heading down south leads to the front door, where SUNNY first encounters KEL after four years of not seeing each other. This is also where SUNNY is given a prompt where he has a choice to open the door for KEL. The glass door is accessed on ONE DAY LEFT, and directly leads outside to the BACKYARD.

DINING ROOM

The DINING ROOM is accessed from the lower left doorway of the LIVING ROOM, and below the KITCHEN. From there, it contains a houseplant, a bookshelf containing books SUNNY'S MOM purchased, and several photos hanging on the wall.

It notably lacks a large wooden dining table as it has been stored away for moving. Also noteworthy is that the drawer to the right of the doorway contains a BANDAGE, which can be used as one of the healing items for the party.

KITCHEN

The KITCHEN is accessed from the upper left doorway of the LIVING ROOM, and right above the DINING ROOM. It contains a large refrigerator, a countertop with a sink and microwave, a metal stove, some cupboards, and a window above the sink. This is also where SUNNY performs his chore of washing the dishes on TWO DAYS LEFT of the neutral route.

On ONE DAY LEFT of the true route, SUNNY enters this room for breakfast made by HERO. KEL can also be seen happily eating his breakfast. Before SUNNY can enjoy his breakfast, a commotion occurs at the front door, causing KEL and HERO to run off and check on it.

Note that opening the refrigerator for the first time causes a brief jumpscare to occur, in which the room darkens as MARI’s spirit appears behind SUNNY before turning back to normal.

STAIRCASE

The STAIRCASE area is accessed by heading up north from the LIVING ROOM. It leads to two stories, with three doors on each floor, and a stairway connecting them. Going down will take the player back to the Living Room. The first floor has a few plants, a bench, and two empty bookcases. Heading upstairs contains three separate doors that each lead to a separate room, a grandfather clock, and two small tables. From left to right, those doors lead to MOM’S ROOM, the BATHROOM, and SUNNY's own bedroom.

The first floor's leftmost door leads to the storage room, which SUNNY will repress, and is only accessible through SUNNY's dreams. The first floor rightmost door leads to the PIANO ROOM. A lone FIRST AID KIT is found to the left of the stairs. Checking here again after defeating PLUTO (EXPANDED) reveals the storage room door briefly visible. Interacting with it will cause SUNNY to hallucinate hands to appear from inside, and drag him inside the storage room. SUNNY will then abruptly be transported back outside, with the storage room door missing again.

MOM'S ROOM

MOM'S ROOM is accessed from the door to the left of the STAIRCASE area. It is a room with a large bed in the left corner. It has a red picnic basket resembling MARI's, which is the only way to save inside SUNNY's HOUSE. Additionally, it has an empty bookcase, a window, and several pictures on the wall.

When entering this room at night during the sleepover segment on TWO DAYS LEFT, MARI can be seen staring at the lone picnic basket. She then turns around upon noticing SUNNY before vanishing. HELLMARI can also be encountered floating above the bed before vanishing, only if the WTF VALUE is set greater than or equal to six.

BATHROOM

SUNNY'S bathroom is a white room with a bathtub, sink, mirror, and a toilet. Checking the mirror at various times will reveal various figures behind SUNNY, such as HELLMARI, SOMETHING, and MARI's spirit. SUNNY can also brush here every morning, and can take a bath during the alternate route after cleaning dishes on TWO DAYS LEFT.

It is also noteworthy SUNNY visits this room on some occasions, such as when throwing up during the PROLOGUE, as well as taking a bath after cleaning dishes on the alternate route, only to face off against SOMETHING IN THE WATER.

BEDROOM

SUNNY's BEDROOM is where the player starts off as SUNNY. It first appears when naming SUNNY on the name select screen. This room contains various objects surrounding SUNNY. These include cardboard boxes containing SUNNY’s old items, a bookshelf, a table with a computer and phone, a plant, a nightstand, a wardrobe, and SUNNY's bed.

Checking on the phone allows SUNNY to hear voicemail from his mother, while accessing the computer allows him to play BLACKJACK. The bottom left table has a TO-DO LIST where SUNNY can do his chores on the alternate route. This is also where SUNNY can organize his stuff from a large cardboard box to sort into smaller boxes on ONE DAY LEFT of that route.

BACKYARD

The BACKYARD can be accessed through the glass door within the LIVING ROOM. It is first briefly shown at night during TWO DAYS LEFT, in which SUNNY can see SOMETHING hovering over a tree stump, causing him to step back. The area is later properly explored when the friend group decides to visit their old TREEHOUSE after attempting to check on BASIL on ONE DAY LEFT. The geography of the area itself is rather hollow and abandoned, as various forgotten toys the group used to play with can be seen scattered near the entrance.

There are also two pinwheels blowing freely in the wind, both representing HERO and MARI. A large tree stump is the most notable feature, as it was the one where BASIL and SUNNY staged MARI's death as a suicide, and was chopped down by SUNNY's father. When approaching the tree stump, a short cutscene will play out where the friend group solemnly remember this was where MARI died, questioning why she decided to take her own life after all these years. HERO then tells the group that they should keep moving.

After checking their old treehouse and fixing the PHOTO ALBUM, AUBREY places a pink pinwheel on the stump where MARI was hung. AUBREY then has a heartfelt conversation with her old friends, explaining her reasons for her recent behavior and eventually apologizing to them. KEL and HERO comfort her, and the four friends share a heartwarming group hug. Afterwards, the friend group decides to head back to BASIL'S HOUSE to check on him once again.

TREEHOUSE

TREEHOUSE

The TREEHOUSE can be accessed by entering through a clearing north of the backyard of SUNNY'S HOUSE. It is made of wooden planks and placed on top of a large tree.

The interior of the TREEHOUSE is now rusty and abandoned, mainly due to the group not using it for four years after MARI's death. Its design in the past reveals that it used to be full of life, making it a place where the group can relax peacefully. There are also a few vines wrapped around the wood, and many of its decorations are decayed in terms of design and color.

These objects all used to belong to the main characters. Some of them include AUBREY's MR. PLANTEGG, HERO's old cookbooks, and MARI's old softball bat. This is also where the last missing photo of the PHOTO ALBUM is located.

STORAGE ROOM

The STORAGE ROOM is a hidden room obscured in gameplay. It is filled with dusty boxes, and has a door going back to the Stairs. Due to SUNNY's repression, it is only available in SUNNY's dreams, once when hallucinating spiders in his house, and once during the night on TWO DAYS LEFT, though it cannot be entered during the last two.

PIANO ROOM

The PIANO ROOM of the house is an empty room with a large piano in the center. Additionally, there is a large window with a curtain, a grandfather clock, and an empty bookcase. SUNNY will shake his head on trying to enter the room early in the game, but will eventually enter it starting from TWO DAYS LEFT of the SUNNY ROUTE.

This is also where MARI and SUNNY used to practice for their upcoming recital in the past. It is first properly visited when HERO decides to check on it during the sleepover segment of TWO DAYS LEFT. From there, KEL and SUNNY watch HERO perform a song on the piano.

Revisiting the area after completing RED SPACE showcases a scene where MARI's spirit communicates with SUNNY, only for HERO to barge in shortly after. On the alternate route, clearing all three fear rematches in LOST LIBRARY and interacting with the piano causes it to vanish due to SUNNY repressing his memory of it.

CHORES

In the OMORI ROUTE, spending time outside in FARAWAY will be replaced with daily chores from SUNNY'S MOM. Doing these chores is necessary to progress and eventually return back to HEADSPACE as OMORI. Completing the sorting chore will grant the player the Good Boy achievement.

SWEEPING THE HOUSE

Sunny Sweeping

This is the chore for THREE DAYS LEFT. It can be started by checking the chore list, upon which SUNNY will take the broom. This chore can be done by finding mounds of dust around the house. Once completed, SUNNY will begin hallucinating as stated above in THREE DAYS LEFT.

WASHING THE DISHES

Sunny Washing Dishes

This is the chore for TWO DAYS LEFT. Once started by checking the chore list, the chore itself will consist of tediously washing several dishes, with dialogue boxes for each one. SUNNY has a 10% chance to break a fragile dish when washing it. Once completed, SUNNY will be prompted to take a bath, leading to an encounter with SOMETHING IN THE WATER.

SORTING

Question Mark Box

This is the final chore, only shown for ONE DAY LEFT. There will be four boxes, with one of them having a question mark. The objective is to sort the objects from the box with the question mark into the other three boxes. The objects SUNNY sorts out all serve as inspirations for the characters and locations that appear in HEADSPACE.

SUNNY's review depends on the percentage of properly sorted items:

  • 99%~100%: "You sorted through your old belongings perfectly. MOM will be pleased."
  • 70%~99%: "You sorted through your old belongings adequately. There are still a few things out of place, but that should be good enough for now."
  • 30%~70%: "You sorted through your old belongings. You could've done better, but it doesn't really matter too much."
  • 0%~30%: "You sorted through your old belongings, but somehow it's worse than before... MOM might scold you for this later..."

  • The area where the large family photo was on is brighter than the rest of the wall.
  • During the NEUTRAL ENDINGS on the SUNNY ROUTE, if SUNNY has slept again in BASIL'S HOUSE, when entering MOM'S ROOM, there is a 1/3 chance an event will be activated to prevent SUNNY reaching his bed. This event is a reuse of the Something in the Bed event on TWO DAYS LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, but unlike the OMORI ROUTE variant, the event will not be deactivated by re-entering his room, leading to a softlock.
  • On TWO DAYS LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, several sounds will play upon going into certain areas. When going up the stairs in the evening, the sound of a sliding glass door opening can be heard; the door does not actually open. When SUNNY'S room is entered during the night, the sound of glass breaking can be heard. If the player checks MOM'S ROOM, a picture frame that was previously on the wall can be found on the floor. It is unknown what causes these events to happen, or if they are just hallucinations.
    • It is likely that the photo falling was originally intended to happen in front of the player as seen in the OMORI 2017 Trailer around timestamp 1:15. Notably, MERCI can be seen after the dialogue box closes, possibly hinting at a connection between her and this event.
  • When SUNNY wakes up at midnight by OMORI stabbing himself in WHITE SPACE, several special events would occur:
    • When SUNNY enters the bathroom for the first time, a sound named SE_screw_lightbulb_1 will be played in an extremely low volume.
    • During the PROLOGUE and THREE DAYS LEFT segments, if SUNNY leaves his room and re-enters it, there is a 10% chance that a large looming STRANGER can briefly appear on the wall.
    • On THREE DAYS LEFT, BASIL'S SOMETHING appears in SUNNY's room, vanishing when he reaches it.
    • On THREE DAYS LEFT, SOMETHING appears at where the closet door is, vanishing when SUNNY reaches the railings of the second floor or walks downstairs.
    • On THREE DAYS LEFT, STRANGER appears behind the sliding glass door, vanishing when SUNNY approaches it.
    • On TWO DAYS LEFT, when interacting with the closet door, SUNNY hallucinates himself being pulled into the storage room by black tentacles.
    • On TWO DAYS LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, a body of MARI can be found near the sliding glass door, vanishing when SUNNY approaches it.
    • On TWO DAYS LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, a large clump of black hair can be found hanging above SUNNY's bed.
HellMari Face (×20)
  • If SUNNY opened the door for MARI during the PROLOGUE, on ONE DAY LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, HELLMARI's face can briefly appear in the living room, MOM'S ROOM and the dining room at night before each one vanishes after a short moment. It is quite difficult to recognize them in the game as the original sprite is nearly transparent.
    • It is also notable that all the three locations have a connection to family photos. The faces in MOM'S ROOM and the dining room are close to some family photos, and the one in the living room appears at where the large family photo was.
  • SUNNY loses 5 HEART when he throws up at toilet on the PROLOGUE.
  • There are two unused dishes for washing, they are TINY BOWL and BORING PLATE. It is unknown why they become unused, but unlike the unused books for sorting, they are not mentioned as deleted objects.
  • There are unused books for sorting in the game's files, including "THE ADVENTURES OF CAPT. SPACEBOY" COMIC, "REVENGE OF SWEETHEART" COMIC, "DIGGING DINOS" COLORING BOOK, "WEEPING WILLOW" BOOK, "THE BIG YELLOW CAT" BOOK, "THE PLAYGROUND IN THE FOREST" BOOK and "THE LONELY SCARECROW" BOOK.
