SPIDER CATS are a group of characters and NPCs in OMORI. They are unusual cat-spider hybrid creatures that reside within PYREFLY FOREST, serving as obstacles OMORI and friends must bypass to access the LOST FOREST.

PROFILE

A SPIDER CAT resembles a black cat/spider hybrid with four long legs and two frontal claws. They usually appear to be agile and quick but easily get distracted by bright objects.

STORY

SPIDER CATS can be found inside PYREFLY FOREST, first appearing as silhouettes within the SIDE ROOMS that hold one of the three WOODEN TRACKS for the broken minecart. They will only appear once the light goes off for the candle to bring the party right back at the entrance while the mini spiders repair any broken webs OMORI sliced with his tag ability.

They later make a more prominent appearance in the area leading to the depths of the forest. If OMORI's party approaches a cat, it'll start chasing the group and direct contact will teleport them to the entrance of the area. SPIDER CATS are fascinated by lit candles, and so OMORI must light the many candles along the way to distract the cats and gain access to further parts of the forest.

If the group has encountered a SPIDER CAT or is spotted by one within the path to LOST FOREST, then the large spiders within the SIDE ROOMS will reveal their actual forms as SPIDER CATS for the remainder of the game.

• Within STATIC WORLD of BLACK SPACE, there is an eerie-looking object that bears a resemblance to a poorly drawn SPIDER CAT.
• There is unused data in the game's files for an enemy version of SPIDER CAT, which indicates there were plans for it to be a regular enemy at some point, as shown above.
  • Despite not being programmed to drop any EXP or CLAMS nor having a FOE FACTS! entry, the enemy version of SPIDER CAT is otherwise fully functional, as it has its own stats, skills, and even AI.

• In the game's files, there is an unused drawing of the SPIDER CAT, found in the game's directory for character portraits. It is titled 00_BLANK_ and its original use is unknown.
• SPIDER CAT'S dormant state looks eerily similar to MEWO, OMORI's pet cat.
• SPIDER CAT is one of the few characters that were originally planned to have an enemy variant, the other being CROW.
• A lone SPIDER CAT can be seen as a faint silhouette in the PYREFLY FOREST intro card.
