PYREFLY FOREST is the third proper location in OMORI. It is a huge, mist-covered forest surrounding a giant castle and whispers of the past. It is accessed during the start of THREE DAYS LEFT within HEADSPACE.
GEOGRAPHY[]
PYREFLY FOREST is connected to the VAST FOREST, LOST FOREST, and SPROUT MOLE VILLAGE. It is located west of the STUMP ENTRANCE of VAST FOREST, and contains a CLUB SANDWICH location behind a waterfall. The side areas contain many SPIDER CATS, which must be distracted by lighting candles so that OMORI can cut through the spider webs to get to various locations, most importantly retrieving three WOODEN TRACKS to progress. There are various plants that can be seen glowing to illuminate the forest.
This location can first be entered after defeating SPACE EX-BOYFRIEND and going through the first FARAWAY TOWN segment. OMORI will be pushed to get over his fear of spiders much like he got over his fear of heights, but HERO is also afraid of spiders. Any spider based enemy that the party fights will have HERO begin the battle AFRAID until his emotional state is changed by something.
A few NPCs can be interacted in this area, such as the WEEPING WILLOW, CANDLIE, and DEMI. Interacting with them will initiate some of the optional side quests the group can complete for bonus items.
STORY[]
After overcoming SOMETHING IN THE WALLS on either ROUTE, SUNNY heads back to sleep. He briefly remembers his first time entering WHITE SPACE before allowing OMORI to awaken once more. As usual, OMORI regroups with his friends to search for BASIL. They first head over to the FOREST PLAYGROUND to meet up with MARI as she is worried about OMORI. After conversing with MARI about where to go next, the group decides to head west of the tree stump area: PYREFLY FOREST.
Although HERO appears anxious about going there due to his fear of spiders, MARI encourages him to face his fears as OMORI has done the same with his fear of heights. As the group prepares to leave, they encounter a group of SPROUT MOLES who are currently headed towards somewhere but they forget where they're headed. They immediately attack the party but are defeated. Upon defeat, the group collects the SPROUT MOLES' SHOW TICKETS for a show titled SWEETHEART'S QUEST FOR HEARTS, which is located at the duchess' castle. The group decides to attend that show to gain more info on BASIL's whereabouts.
When approaching a spider web blocking the entrance, OMORI appears hesitant at first but manages to hack his way through upon conquering his fear. The group ventures through the misty forest while encountering a few foes in their path. After collecting three WOODEN TRACKS for a incomplete minecart track, the group uses a minecart to make their way through the forest. Upon finishing riding the minecart, MARI greets them at a resting area and the group takes a break before continuing their journey.
They eventually come across a foggy area filled with dead SPROUT MOLES near the end of the forest. The group ends up fighting KING CRAWLER, a mindless parasite that kills SPROUT MOLES and harvests their empty husks in order to extend its own body. The creature notices the party and emerges from the shadows to attack them. However, OMORI and friends prevail and vanquish the creature, acquiring SPROUT MOLE MASKS dropped by it. They collect the items and head over to the SPROUT MOLE VILLAGE for more clues on the missing BASIL.
NOTABLE AREAS[]
MINECART TRACK ROOMS[]
These areas are necessary to progress through this location. There will be a long road following a mining cart with some paths off to the side. You can walk down most of it, but near the end there will be a blockage. To break the blockage the party must gather all three track pieces and interact with the empty slots to repair the track, then ride the mining cart to progress.
PYREFLY I (ROOM 1)[]
The first area PYREFLY I can be accessed once OMORI overcomes his fears of spiders by slicing through a spider web blocking the entrance. The player is then introduced to the surroundings of PYREFLY FOREST before resuming control of the party. From there, the party can find a minecart but when riding it for the first time, it turns out the minecart track is missing three WOODEN TRACKS. Thus OMORI and friends must find them in the other rooms to progress. The player can go either east or north.
Heading east will lead the party to a dead end where the JOKE BOOK can be obtained to record jokes from the signs scattered throughout HEADSPACE. If the player decides to throw some CLAMS into the sparkling point in the pond close to it, this will summon WEEPING WILLOW, who'll ask the party to tell her some. This will prompt her sidequest, where the group must tell her a joke that'll make her laugh.
In addition, one of ABBI's tentacles can be found near the pond. Only after defeating ABBI and choosing to spare her, will the TENTACLE grant you the COUGH MASK charm. One of the various LARGE FACES can be interacted with using AUBREY's tag ability, only if the LARGE FACE in ORANGE OASIS is already spoken to.
Other than that, heading north will take the group into further sections of PYREFLY FOREST. The two watermelons found here contain a CHICKEN WING and BREADFRUIT JUICE.
PYREFLY II (ROOM 2)[]
As mentioned before, heading north leads the party into the second room PYREFLY II. This is where the party is introduced to a new enemy known as the BUG BUNNY, who'll inflict the AFRAID emotion on HERO at every start of a battle. Once again, there are two watermelons stationed here, containing a CHERRY SODA and GRANOLA BAR.
There are two directions the party can follow to progress: west and north. Going west will connect to one of the PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS, where DEMI and a WOODEN TRACK can be found (See PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS). Going there grants the party a bonus sidequest if the player interacts with DEMI. Heading north leads to the next area.
PYREFLY III (ROOM 3)[]
The third area PYREFLY III is where the MATCHBOX can be found, right near a platform that has stairs. Obtaining it will allow OMORI and party to light up candles to distract any spider creatures from occupying spider webs OMORI must slice down to progress, something he couldn't have done before.
The two watermelons in this room contain a BERRY SMOOTHIE and FRIES. There are also two new enemies the party can encounter, POTTED PLANT and SPROUT MOLE?, who has a 1/3 chance of spawning when encountering a regular SPROUT MOLE enemy. Heading east will lead to SIDE ROOM 2 where CANDLIE and one of the missing WOODEN TRACKS can be found (See PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS). Heading west will help the party progress through the forest.
PYREFLY IV (ROOM 4)[]
The fourth area PYREFLY IV serves a resting spot for the party to rest up, heal, and save. MARI is found right near her picnic basket down below. The watermelon located there contains the CAT EARS charm, which notably increases a user's speed by ten points. Along with that, the party can interact with a floating mirror to view their reflection too.
The player can exit this area through the path that has a bridge west of MARI's picnic, leading to the last side room holding a WOODEN TRACK (See PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS). Heading up north will lead to the last mandatory room of the forest. If the player has a WOODEN TRACK, they can place it on the spot where it's supposed to be at.
PYREFLY V (ROOM 5)[]
The fifth area PYREFLY V is where a sturdy blockade impedes the party from progressing, and not even AUBREY can break it. Thus, the group must place the last missing WOODEN TRACK, then ride the minecart to break through. A character known as MUSH appears behind some spider webs, and will ask the player to eat him. Agreeing with him will add some MUSH to their inventory. The group must also be careful of the RARE BEAR right beside MUSH, as it serves a difficult enemy to defeat if the party is underleveled.
Heading behind the waterfall once OMORI overcomes his fears of drowning will allow the group to access a CLUB SANDWICH location. Moving east will bring them to another segment that leads to the hidden location LOST FOREST. Riding the minecart from ROOM 1 upon completing the track leads the party to the final area of the forest.
KING CRAWLER AREA[]
After breaking through the blockage and seeing a brief view of SWEETHEART'S CASTLE using the minecart from ROOM 1, the party is taken to the end of the forest. This area also serves as a resting area like in ROOM 4.
This will lead to a short cutscene where the group reunites with MARI, notably with HERO hugging her after expressing his fears of the creatures found in the forest. Regardless, the party can rest up, heal, or save. In addition, there is a MAILBOX shop that sells NACHOS, POPCORN, TASTY SODA, TOMATO, DANDELION, and LIFE JAM. The group can also access PLUTO'S SPACELINE right next to the MAILBOX for transportation.
Heading up north will reveal a foggy area featuring multiple dead corpses of SPROUT MOLES. One of them, though barely alive, will warn the group to run while they still can. Progressing further will lead the party to the entrance to SPROUT MOLE VILLAGE. However, the group must take on the deadly KING CRAWLER, who intends to kill the children after feasting on a SPROUT MOLE's corpse. Defeating KING CRAWLER grants the party some SPROUT MOLE MASKS and access to SPROUT MOLE VILLAGE and by extension, SWEETHEART'S CASTLE.
PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS[]
The side rooms are the rooms that hold the three missing WOODEN TRACKS. Each of them holds a puzzle where the group must light up the candles to distract the spiders. Doing so will give them a limited timer on retrieving the WOODEN TRACK as quickly as possible. There are only three side rooms total.
PYREFLY SIDE-I[]
The first side room PYREFLY SIDE-I can be accessed from ROOM 2 by going west. Doing so will allow the group to enter an area where DEMI can be found to initiate his sidequest, which involves finding an INTERESTING BOOK for him to read. In addition, going up ahead in this area reveals one of the three missing WOODEN TRACKS.
To obtain it, the group must first light up a candle using a MATCHBOX, which can obtained from ROOM 3. The spiders will then be drawn there, allowing OMORI cut off their webs and advance: but beware, this is a game of speed. Once the light goes off, not only will they return and remake all spider webs you've broken, but a giant spider will fall from above and place you right back at the entrance. Obtaining the WOODEN TRACK as fast as possible is necessary to progress. Another variant of the spider web puzzle can be found in the following two side rooms.
PYREFLY SIDE-II[]
The second side room PYREFLY SIDE-II is accessed from ROOM 3 by going east. This leads a short area where CANDLIE can be found to initiate her sidequest, which involves having to find her missing teddy bear at SWEETHEART'S CASTLE. Down below is where the second missing WOODEN TRACK is located.
Once again, the player must light up the candle to distract the spiders, and slice through the spider webs as quick as possible to obtain the item. This method is the same as SIDE ROOM 1's puzzle.
PYREFLY SIDE-III[]
The third side room PYREFLY SIDE-III is accessed from ROOM 4 by heading west through the bridge. This will reveal the last puzzle involving the candle and the spiders: though this time, seems like you can take two different paths.
It's trickier, but the way to get to the WOODEN TRACK here is to stick to the path that's further left: it saves the player time time from breaking off more spider webs than necessary, the minimum enough to be able to reach them. The party can also smash a watermelon containing a TOMATO.
Finishing this room will allow the group to finally complete the minecart track to progress to the end of the forest.
LOST FOREST[]
LOST FOREST is a hidden location within PYREFLY FOREST containing remnants of the truth. It can only be accessed if the player chooses to head east of the room featuring the only RARE BEAR fightable in PYREFLY FOREST and precedes the track leading to SWEETHEART'S CASTLE. The next area will feature multiple SPIDER CATS serving as obstacles the party must overcome by lighting up the candles nearby to distract them.
Upon reaching the clearing, the party will be greeted by DADDY LONGLEGS, who introduces them to the nature of LOST FOREST and presumably HEADSPACE. To navigate through the location, the player must take the paths guarded by the GHOST BUNNY floating around that area. Doing so will allow OMORI and friends to progress through the misty forest. Interacting with DADDY LONGLEGS as you progress will result in him giving you exposition about the forest and about the nature of WHITE SPACE. This is also the location of the H Letter required for the HANGMAN as well as a PEARL item.
Reaching the last room of LOST FOREST leads to DADDY LONGLEGS speaking his final words. He reveals information regarding the origins of HEADSPACE and how SUNNY expanded it upon arriving there as OMORI in the past. With that being said, DADDY LONGLEGS walks into a large blue flame, vanishing from HEADSPACE. The group can then collect the H Letter and leave LOST FOREST. Completing LOST FOREST will render it inaccessible for the remainder of the game.

KEL Ugh... On second thought... Let's look for BASIL somewhere else. This place gives me the heebie-jeebies. |
Mari (Pyrefly Forest)

MARI Not to mention I keep hearing skittering from up ahead... Seems like it could be something potentially dangerous, so you all should probably rest up. |

KEL He could tell HERO about how spiders are harmless and good for nature or something. Maybe then he wouldn't find them so creepy. MARI Oh, HERO... You're going to have to deal with this eventually. These things will only get worse over time. |

MARI I heard there used to be a huge library filled with books here... but since no one took care of it... over time the library slowly sank into the ground... |

BASIL Well... I think spiders are really misunderstood... They might look kind of scary, but they never attack humans unless they feel threatened. BASIL Not to mention they're also one of my biggest helpers when I'm gardening... since they eat a lot of the pests that can hurt my plants. It's all about the balance of nature! |

TRIVIA[]
- In one of the game's files, the PYREFLY FOREST is referred to as FIREFLY FOREST.
- PYREFLY FOREST shares the same battle BGM with PINWHEEL FOREST. This BGM was originally used for VAST FOREST's battle theme in the 2018 demo, before being replaced with a more energetic, livelier version.
- PYREFLY FOREST is presumably inspired by the forest SUNNY and his friends once visited for bug-hunting, as shown through a few photos from the FARAWAY PHOTO ALBUM.
- This is also evident by one of the photos found on the official OMORI website's interactive HEADSPACE game by clicking on the top left spider web when in the forest. The photo itself is later featured in the console releases of the game after HEADSPACE is reset on the OMORI ROUTE.
- There is an unused enemy variant of the SPIDER CAT that were originally planned to appear as actual enemies hindering the party's path to LOST FOREST instead of serving as avoidable obstacles. They can only be found fully functioning within the 2019 build of the game.
- BASIL's commentary regarding how spiders are actually helpful instead of harmful during the picnic segment on ONE DAY LEFT is directly reused from his dialogue within SPIDER FOREST.
- PYREFLY FOREST is one of the six locations featured in the official OMORI website's interactive HEADSPACE game. The other areas consist of BASIL'S HOUSE, JUNKYARD, SWEETHEART'S CASTLE, LAST RESORT, and MUSTARD SUB.
- Interacting with the blockage lump will play out a special cutscene where KEL asks AUBREY to smash it, to which the latter happily agrees to do so. However, AUBREY's tag ability has no effect on the blockage and the BGM goes silent while this happens.
- Interacting with the blockage after the cutscene prompts AUBREY to look on with an unamused expression. She will repeat this until the group manages to destroy the clump with the minecart.
- PYREFLY FOREST is one of the four locations that houses a CLUB SANDWICH location. The other three consist of OTHERWORLD, ORANGE OASIS, and LAST RESORT.
- There are two WTF events that can play out depending on the player's WTF VALUE:
- If the "WTF" value is 3 or higher, a HANGED BODY from FISH OUT OF WATER appears in the top right of the end of the LOST FOREST map. Going near it plays SE_bs_creature2 and it will disappear ominously.
- If the "WTF" value is 9 or higher, DADDY LONGLEGS will appear in the same map with a RARE BEAR within PYREFLY FOREST. However, DADDY LONGLEGS will slowly vanish when the event is loaded in-game, without speaking any single line of dialogue.
- Note that this can only occur before the player has visited OTHERWORLD. Due to PYREFLY FOREST being accessed only after the player completes OTHERWORLD, the event itself is technically "unused".
- If OMORI attempts to leave his friends behind after getting caught by a SPIDER CAT within the path to LOST FOREST, this prompts dialogue from either one of them, begging the former to not leave them behind.
- The location's BGM is later remixed for a softer version that plays in LOST LIBRARY.
- On rare occasions, faceless apparitions of OMORI's friends from MEAT ROOM can occasionally show up in any of the maps within the LOST FOREST. Their presence as a whole presumably serves a hint towards the existence of BLACK SPACE merging with HEADSPACE.
- At an unreachable area in the northeastern corner of the PYREFLY TO SWEETHEART map, a jumprope can be found near a stump, which implies the truth behind the story. This can be viewed through the full map image or by modding.
- The little spiders found in the PYREFLY SIDE ROOMS are actually known as BABY SPIDERS. They were originally planned to be enemies fought during the SOMETHING IN THE WALLS boss fight for both variants of the enemy but this idea was scrapped.
- In the RPG MAKER MV project of the game, SOMETHING can be found at the end of the LOST FOREST but this cannot be seen clearly in-game as the fog is obscuring the player's vision. It only appears if Variable 1000 is set greater than or equal to 20.
