UNUSED TAG VOICES

The HEADSPACE versions of AUBREY, KEL, and HERO were originally planned to have voice lines when being tagged. However, these voice clips were scrapped but still exist in the demo's coding.

CUT GRAPHICS

PLACEHOLDERS

These following content consists of three unused character portraits:

  • 00_BLANK: An early drawing of SPIDER CAT, found in the game's directory for character portraits.
  • FACECLUSTER: A bizarre portrait featuring the HEADSPACE versions of AUBREY, KEL, and HERO clumped up together into a nightmarish face. Original use is currently unknown. However, a smaller version of it can be found on one of the BLACK SPACE sketchbook pages.
  • SUNNY: An early version of SUNNY's in-game portrait, stored in MARI's spritesheet. This was originally going to be used in an unused version of a cutscene meant for the GOOD ENDING.

SPIRIT MARI

MARI has a full unused set of portraits meant for her SPIRIT form that be encountered occasionally throughout the game. In-game, MARI's SPIRIT form only uses one portrait during the NORTH LAKE segment, where she bids farewell to SUNNY. The portrait used has her usual black eyes with white pupils.

BASIL (WIP)

FARAWAY BASIL has several portraits that show him either angry or emotionally distressed. Some of them are used in-game as BASIL only uses some of his portraits for specific segments, both with and without his flower. (Note that this segment is a work-in-progress like the other entries)

BATTLE PORTRAITS

Many of the FARAWAY versions of the main cast have unused EMOTION sprites which aren't used in-game. Some of them appear only through certain conditions. Exclusive to the demo, OMORI has an AFRAID and TOAST sprites that were removed in-game.

CUT ENEMIES

STRAY DOG

Originally planned to be fightable in FARAWAY TOWN at evening and RECYCULTIST'S HQ. However, enemy data still exists within the game's code.

CROW

Originally planned to be fightable in FARAWAY TOWN at night and RECYCULTIST'S HQ. However, enemy data still exists within the game's code.

SPIDER CAT

The SPIDER CAT creature was originally planned as an proper enemy instead of an obstacle in PYREFLY FOREST. However, enemy data still exists within the game's code.

HUMPHREY

A single HUMPHREY bump was originally planned as an proper enemy instead of an NPC in the whale himself. However, enemy data still exists within the game's code.

MOLLY, MARINA, & MEDUSA

Individual sprites for each of the SLIME GIRLS. Only the NEUTRAL sprites are used via FOE FACTS!. The other sprites were scrapped in-battle in favor of fighting all three of them together.

BABY SPIDER

Sprites used for the unused BABY SPIDER enemy, meant to be present in battles against SOMETHING IN THE WALLS.

FEAR OF THE DARK

An early version of SOMETHING IN THE DARK shown in the 2017 trailer. Enemy data is entirely scrapped but only exists in the demo's coding.

FEAR OF WATER

An early version of SOMETHING IN THE WATER found in the game's files. Enemy data is entirely scrapped but its battle sprites are all of what's left of the enemy.

FARAWAY ENEMIES

Although many FARAWAY TOWN enemies have battle sprites, it's impossible to make them feel emotions. Unique sprites exist, regardless. These sprites can also be accessed through debugging or modding.

UNUSED TEXT

THE TRUTH

In the final release, the text for "THE TRUTH" version of BASIL's PHOTO ALBUM is usually blurred and unreadable in normal gameplay. These polaroids explain the full background behind how MARI died during the accident.

Despite this, actual text for that PHOTO ALBUM exists via unused images with description regarding the BLACK SPACE polaroids. Note that unlike the other variants of the PHOTO ALBUM, the narration is entirely read in second-person perspective by both SUNNY and BASIL's thoughts:

  • Photo of a Wall - You heard some scoffing from behind the wall, but paid it no notice. You were in no mood to focus. You were overcame. You were sick of everything. You know it wasn't a big deal, but you couldn't control yourself.
  • Photo of a Broken Violin - Your precious violin lay shattered at the bottom of the staircase. You threw it in a rage. Your fingers were shaking in pain... practicing over and over... but you still make mistakes after mistakes. This was all a bad idea.
  • Photo of an Argument - MARI was yelling at you. You couldn't understand what she was saying. She didn't understand you at all... She didn't understand that you just weren't good enough. The only thing you hold onto was your anger. This pain... was it her fault?
  • Photo of a Fight - MARI blocked your path. She says that she isn't finished talking. She tells you not to run away... but why not? You did this all for her! Why was she yelling at you? You didn't understand...
  • Photo of a Murder - You lose all sense and push her down the staircase.
  • Photo of Silence - You watched MARI crush on top of your broken violin. The sound wakes you up to nothing but silence. You called out to her, but she doesn't answer. Your heart sinks into your stomach.
  • Photo of Panic - It happened in an instant. You didn't mean to do that. Well, you did mean to push her, didn't you? It was an accident, right? You're not sure. You tremble your way down the staircase.
  • Photo of Desperation - You call her name, but she doesn't answer. You sweep the bits of wood from her body. Nothing but scratches. You turn her around and see her face. She looks asleep... but then, why isn't she answering?
  • Photo of an Accomplice - You pick up Mari and drag her up the stairs. She feels lighter than you think. She just needs to lie down in a bed... She just needs some rest...
  • Photo of Disbelief - Your heart beats out of your chest. Your head feels fuzzy. You lose vision. You push the door to the bedroom open, and make your way to her bed. She's going to be okay, right? This is just a dream, right?
  • Photo of Anguish - You call her name over and over, but she doesn't answer. You watch the light from the window cast a shadow over her face. She's expressionless. You sink your fingers into her arm, and break down into tears.
  • Photo of Guilt - You want to scream for help, but you're afraid... you mumble to yourself... what if they ask what happened? There's no way you can tell them the truth. Who would be able to forgive him? Who would believe... that it was... an accident?
  • Photo of an Idea - A whisper comes from behind you, but you ignore it. A cry comes from behind you, but you ignore it. You cover your face with your arms. This isn't real. None of this real. Why won't you wake up?
  • Photo of Hopelessness - Everything appears dark. The shadows slither around you. You don't understand what is happening... Your head starts to feel fuzzy... You sink into a crevice in your mind... an empty white room.
  • Photo of Support - Your shoulders feel heavy. A familiar voice whispers something unspeakable. Your eyes widen. It tells you to follow its lead. It says... it's the only way out... It says... that everything will be okay.
  • Photo of Betrayal - You pick up MARI's body and lift it down the staircase. She feels lighter than you think. You feel multiple eyes shift their gaze to you. You keep your eyes toward the ground.
  • Photo of Hope - You hear the sliding of a familiar door. A voice tells you to walk. A gist of wind enters the room as the light outside engulfs you. You keep your eyes toward the ground.
  • Photo of a Tree - As you face forward, you listen to the crunching of the grass and feel the coolness of the wind. You hear the leaves in the trees riffle as the sun begins to set... but you try to ignore it. It's all just a dream...
  • Photo of a Branch - You lay down MARI’s body and look up for the first time. Small rays of light shine through the cracks in the leaves. You relish in its beauty and savor the moment. You think... even if this is all real, if you keep looking at the leaves, that... everything will be okay.
  • Photo of a Rope - You hear pacing, the crunching of the grass sifting back and forth. You think you see a figure pick something off the ground, but you’re not sure. You keep staring at the leaves overhead. Everything will be okay... You think... Everything will be okay.
  • Photo of Hands - You hear shuffling. You hear dragging... and creaking... and pulling. Something is happening, but you refuse to look away from the leaves. Your head feels fuzzy again. You bite your tongue and attempt to wake up one last time, but it’s no use... You’re still here.
  • Photo of a Lie - As you and BASIL step into the house, you look back towards the trees and see it. The light engulfs it as it sways in the wind... For a moment, you feel at peace. You hate yourself for feeling this way. Is that all, then? Is everything going to be okay now?
  • Photo of Legs - You feel a cold hand clutch yours. You try to jerk away, but it squeezes back; unwilling to let you go. The hand drags you backward. You look up and see your best friend for the first time... BASIL. You see the tears falling from his tired eyes as he looks ahead. You suddenly realize that none of this is a dream. All of this is real.
  • Photo of Something - Suddenly, BASIL stops. You look up at his eyes... but this time, they’re wide awake, staring at Something. You turn your eyes toward it as well, though you wish you didn’t. An eye meets yours. Your heart sinks into your stomach. You shouldn’t have looked back... You just... shouldn’t... have looked...

UNUSED CUTSCENE

OMORI_-_ws_laptop

OMORI - ws laptop

In the game's directory for "movie" cutscenes, there exists an poorly-drawn cutscene where OMORI is shown sitting on a bed in an unknown room before the scene cuts over to the credits.

This is likely related to the WHITE SPACE laptop due to its filename. In addition, the entire cutscene is a huge reference to a scene from Parks and Recreation. It is also found in the 2018 demo's files.

UNUSED MAPS

99 Letter Sequence

In the game's data, there exists a sequence of seven unused BLACK SPACE rooms that are removed from the final release. In theory, these rooms should be accessed via the holes that HANGMAN keys create whenever one is collected. However, due to requiring a total of 99 keys for total access, this makes it impossible to complete as only 26 total keys exist in-game.

Despite this, the 2019 build of the game ultimately reveals that these rooms were the original sequence OMORI had to go through in BLACK SPACE via a non-linear order. Regardless, it is unclear why these rooms are still functioning but not entirely scrapped in the data.

Map 305 (FRIENDS STUMP)

FRIENDS STUMP exists as an early version of the NEIGHBOR'S ROOM, where BASIL gets killed at the hands of both KEL and AUBREY under HERO's command. Upon close inspection, this room uses the BLACK FOREST tileset instead of the NEIGHBOR'S ROOM one.

BASIL's dialogue there was also slightly different, where he instead discusses MARI instead of his beloved PHOTO ALBUM. Once BASIL is brutally murdered by AUBREY, the player is taken to Map 269.

Map 269 (BASIL'S RESPITE)

BASIL'S RESPITE serves as the room OMORI is taken after completing the FRIENDS STUMP subarea. It is a small darkened room consisting of various white egret orchids and various LITTLE BASILS from DEEPER WELL.

The only way to leave is to move north and south. Interacting with the monochrome stump from BASIL'S RAFT PATH warps OMORI to Map 300, whereas heading down to the pillar of light sends him to Map 268.

Map 300 (STUMP AREA)

The STUMP AREA is accessed by interacting with the tree stump in the BASIL'S RESPITE subarea. It is a darkish-red room field with multiple tree stumps, trees, and various LITTLE BASILS lying around. Along with that, the puddles on the floor reflect the darkened background of the area, taken directly from the WEATHERVANE ISLAND.

Note that if one interacts with the bottom-middle stump, the game automatically softlocks itself as it will try to take OMORI to an area that doesn't exist in the data. The warping script for this area implies that this was meant to send OMORI back from a BLACK SPACE pocket area to the BASIL'S RESPITE area as it was only functional in an early build of the game.

Interacting with other stumps gives out empty text dialogue from faceless mannequins of OMORI's friends. These portraits of the characters are only shown via MEAT ROOM of the final release.

Map 373 (RED SPACE UNUSED)

An unused version of the RED SPACE area resembles the same one found in the final release. In fact, DW BASIL's dismembered fingers are shown lying about.

The top corner of the map lies a long row of RED HANDS that will warp the player back to the BLACK SPACE center hub, functioning the same way they did in the final game.

Map 268 (TREEHOUSE IN THE LAKE)

This room is considered one of the largest scrapped rooms in the game's data. It is an area featuring a monochrome treehouse in the center of the room, surrounded by gray puddles and white egret orchids. Entering the treehouse will warp the player to BASIL'S RESPITE via a pillar of light.

One notable feature is that the northwest and southeast corners feature various dark doors in a 3x3 linear manner. Interacting with any of them takes OMORI to the DARK PATH. A lone RED HAND residing near a stump can also take the player to an early version of a different BLACK SPACE.

Map 293 (DARK PATH)

The DARK PATH resembles a long vertical road filled with streetlights and a darkened road using textures from ABBI's room in THE ABYSS. Note that this area is presumably an early placeholder of the final game's MEMORY LANE due to its heavy resemblance to that location.

There are two ways to exit the room. Heading north and looping the room twice warps the player to Map 294, whereas moving south sends them back to Map 268.

Map 294 (BASIL SOMETHING)

A hollow, empty area with the background parallax of the CHURCH OF SOMETHING. The image displayed is shown to be flowing constantly with BASIL'S SOMETHING and various dark tendrils looming in the background. Other than that, touching any border of the room warps the player back to Map 268.
