OMORI Wiki

JACKSON is an enemy in OMORI. He can be fought when interacting with his poster in HOBBEEZ from FARAWAY TOWN. Defeating him will drop the MERRY CD, one of the thirteen obtainable CDs in-game.

PROFILE[]

APPEARANCE[]

JACKSON is a large mask-wearing creature wielding two chainsaws covered in blood. His blood-covered mask notably resembles a hockey mask, akin to the ones often worn by serial killers in slasher horror films.

Other than that, JACKSON also wears dark purple boxers with a brown belt strapped across his waist, and two boots ending with spikes on the bottom. Upon defeat, his mask's expressions changes to a cat-like expression. These changes can also be seen for his other unused emotion sprites.

PERSONALITY[]

Judging by his brief appearance, JACKSON possesses the characteristics of a serial killer, as evident by his intent to kill anyone he comes across. However, this may be due to SUNNY depicting him as that type of character.

STORY[]

On any day within HOBBEEZ on the SUNNY ROUTE, there is an "interesting poster" found on the top right corner of the shop. When inspecting it, KEL will comment that the monster on the poster looks realistic while noting that fighting it would be tough.

SUNNY is then given a prompt to challenge the monster to a battle. Doing so will lead to a short, imaginary sequence where SUNNY faces off against the monster, whose name is known as JACKSON. If SUNNY loses against JACKSON, he will be taken back to the overworld but his HP and MP aren't affected as the battle is revealed to have taken place within SUNNY's head.

Defeating JACKSON transitions the screen back to the overworld, where SUNNY is shown to be fazed from his "encounter" with JACKSON. KEL tries snapping SUNNY out of his funk but notices a CD that fell behind the poster. The duo then obtain the MERRY CD once SUNNY regains his senses. Inspecting the poster post-battle leads to KEL repeating his previous comment he mentioned before.

SKILLS[]

SKILL NOTES DAMAGE
WALK SLOWLY JACKSON slowly inches forward...
  • You feel like you can't escape!
  • SKILL is repeated for 4 turns.
-
AUTO KILL JACKSON catches you!
  • _____ instantly gets defeated.
  • SKILL is only used on the 5th turn.
999

All skills, unless stated otherwise, have a 20% variance rate. This means they will do between 80% and 120% of their regular damage.

*This enemy's moveset is practically scripted, following a set pattern before initiating the final turn.

AI[]

SKILL* BEHAVIOR
For the first to fourth turn, JACKSON will slowly approach the player.

For the fifth turn, JACKSON will deal 999 damage, ending the fight if the player doesn't defeat him first.

Every turn, each enemy will start by trying to use the skill listed at the top. If the calculation fails, they move on to the second skill and so on, until reaching the final skill which is guaranteed to activate. Each calculation is done independently from the previous ones, so the added percentage is not 100%.

*This enemy's moveset is practically scripted, following a set pattern before initiating the final turn.

STRATEGY[]

The battle begins (presumably in the player's imagination). Every turn, JACKSON will slowly inch towards the player. After four turns, JACKSON will "catch" the player on the fifth turn, zooming the screen and dealing 999 damage. As stated in the battle, you cannot escape from this battle, but losing it will allow you to fight JACKSON again. If SUNNY uses his basic attack every turn, he can defeat JACKSON relatively quickly.

TRIVIA[]

  • JACKSON is only FARAWAY TOWN enemy with the HEADSPACE aesthetic for his design, most likely due to SUNNY imagining him that way alongside a few other hallucinations related to the imaginary dream world.
  • JACKSON shares the same battle background with DUST BUNNY.
  • JACKSON presumably references the character Dad from the 2006 flash game 'Dad n Me'.
  • It is possible to run away from the fight, allowing SUNNY to refight as many times as he wants until defeating him.
  • Like all enemies in FARAWAY TOWN, JACKSON was originally intended to have emotion states. These were scrapped for unknown reasons, but can still be accessed by hacking or through using mods.
  • The battle BGM used exclusively for JACKSON's encounter is labeled boss_jesse in the game's files. JESSE is the actual name of the HEADPHONES KID, who was originally was planned to be an enemy during the game's development.
  • JACKSON and RECYCLEPATH are the only FARAWAY TOWN enemies to drop an item after being defeated.
  • He's a refence to the iconic horror character, Jason Voorhees.
