LOST FOREST 1[1] is one of the five primary BLACK SPACE 2 locations in OMORI. It can be accessed through one of the doors in the BLACK SPACE 2 hub, only on the OMORI ROUTE.

GEOGRAPHY[]

GENERAL[]

LOST FOREST 1 is a maze-like black and white forest with narrow paths between the trees, and some hidden paths that require walking through walls. The forest's appearance is similar to the hole event after picking up the last correct HANGMAN key; in fact, the HANGMAN event is even accessible from the top of LOST FOREST 1. Various objects can be found around the forest, such as a few boxes found at some of the dead ends.

Interacting with a body of water here allows you to swim instead of walking, swapping water as land and land as water. OMORI can't cut cobwebs while swimming, but can interact with LITTLE ONES in the area, revealing a text box saying "Help me..."

A special event will continually generate visions of another OMORI and BASIL walking away from the true OMORI when he reaches it. It is located near the entrance to FOREST CLEARING first and will be teleported between the original location and the other location (which is in the southeastern of the map) once fresh visions are created. The event has a 50% chance to be temporarily erased after a teleportation and it will reappear at the original location if OMORI re-enters the map.

There is also a waterfall to the top left. It takes you to a zone with a railroad track loop where an empty minecart keeps going and running over LITTLE ONES.

FEAR POLAROID HUNT[]

In an event currently exclusive to the console versions of the game, after entering the PLAYER ROOM WITH HELLMARI for the first time, walking anywhere in the room will cause a camera flash as a "Fear Polaroid" photo is taken. This initiates the special Fear polaroid sequence event. This will also change the sleeping SUNNY in the room into an unconscious MARI with monochrome colors.

Upon exiting the subarea, the SOMETHING fear border consisting of darkened hands can be seen swarming the screen alongside the RED SPACE BGM playing in the background. There will be a total of five additional polaroids that the player can find throughout the playground and LOST FOREST 1 maps. The first additional polaroid is found near the playground's entrance, while the remaining four are scattered throughout the main area. The player cannot enter any other subarea nor collect polaroids unrelated to the event the moment they begin the polaroid hunt. Once OMORI collects all five extra polaroids, the screen will darken as he stabs himself to end the sequence.

OMORI is then transported into the PLAYER ROOM WITH HELLMARI, awakening in the bed MARI was lying in before walking out of it. The bed itself is now completely empty as MARI has vanished. At this point, the polaroid hunt event cannot be initiated again unless the player has a save file before the event's completion.

NOTABLE AREAS[]

BLACK PLAYGROUND[]

A monochrome, lifeless version of the FARAWAY PARK's playground that features disembodied OMORI heads and cryptic visions regarding the game's plot. It can be accessed through a white door within the forest. In addition, both the swing set and slide can be interacted with, just like during the intro segment for TWO DAYS LEFT.

A half-speed version of the music Where We Used To Play is faintly heard in the background. The only character the player can interact with is a monochrome PINATA GUY swinging around the tetherball pole in the center. After the player collects the polaroid in the PLAYER ROOM WITH HELLMARI, another polaroid can be found at the entrance of this room, currently exclusive to console releases of the game.

PLAYER ROOM WITH HELLMARI[]

This room can be accessed by interacting with the OMORI head on the far left of the BLACK PLAYGROUND. This will take the player to a darkened facsimile of SUNNY's bedroom with a monochrome color scheme.

On console releases of the game only, there is also a single polaroid found here, and inspecting it will trigger a special "Fear polaroid sequence" event where OMORI can find five additional polaroids scattered across playground and LOST FOREST 1.

SUNNY can be found sleeping in his bed with HELLMARI hovering over his head, and will later change into MARI once the first polaroid is collected. Once the polaroid hunt event is completed, the bed will be empty, but HELLMARI's disembodied head still remains in the room. To exit this area, the player can simply walk out of the room.

WALKING ROOM[]

By interacting with the OMORI head at the very top of the playground, OMORI will be taken to an endless hallway featuring the HEADSPACE versions of AUBREY, KEL, and HERO. They are lined up together and facing the player. If the player tries approaching them, they simply walk backwards, seemingly with no end. Walking down will bring OMORI back to the distorted playground.

RIB CAGE ROOM[]

When interacting with a large, deranged carcass located near the center of LOST FOREST 1, OMORI will be transported into a dark void featuring small humanoid figures.

There are also various bones scattered across the area and a few creatures that don't make any noise. All OMORI can do is simply wander through the area to view the creatures residing here or interact with the carcass to warp back to LOST FOREST 1.

BEHIND THE DOOR[]

This area can be found through a clearing between the trees in the upper right portion of LOST FOREST 1. OMORI can walk to the far right of the room and will eventually reach a large white door with a figure behind it that vaguely resembles a horrifically-drawn MARI with a noose tied around her neck.

After seeing the door, the exit nearby is blocked by a cobweb that cannot be cut down. Walking back to the left will cause the door to open with a creaking sound. This prevents OMORI from running as he slows down in movement. Going back to the door reveals it to be opened, but nothing else will happen as the only option from there is to exit the room. Attempting to enter the room again will only result in the text box reading "You are afraid.", rendering the room inaccessible.

FOREST CLEARING[]

This area can be found by walking through another clearing between the hollow trees in the top left of LOST FOREST 1. When entering the room, OMORI can only move north. Reaching the end of the room reveals a monochrome tree with a noose tied to it. A shadowy figure is shown attempting to chop it down. Interacting with the man will prompt him to disown OMORI, telling him he's not his son and appears frustrated as to why he can't cut down the tree.

One thing to note is that this room is exactly the same room featured during one of the HANGMAN hole segments. If the player decides to exit the room to the left before entering it, visions of OMORI and BASIL can be seen leaving as well. Attempting to walk towards them will cause them to disappear.

If the polaroid hunt event has not been completed, one of the ten "Fear Polaroids" can be found to the right of the area's entrance, currently exclusive to console releases of the game.

ENDLESS MINECART[]

Minecart Area

Walking through the waterfall will allow OMORI to enter this location. The area features a looping track where a minecart rides with no end. The minecart also appears to run over any LITTLE ONES standing on the track. Between the tracks are various deranged, distorted figures such as THE FACELESS, though they cannot be reached as OMORI cannot cross the track. A lone white egret orchid can be found in the upper right corner of the map.

Interacting with the pond on the bottom right will prompt a quote, revealing a hint of the events that occurred shortly after MARI's death. Exiting and re-entering the room generates a different quote at random.

ALTERNATE ENTRANCES[]

  • Interacting with the loose brick inside the RARE BEAR DUNGEON in SWEETHEART'S CASTLE will bring OMORI to the BEHIND THE DOOR subarea. (Entering the area this way will not allow access to the main area of LOST FOREST 1, only the room for BEHIND THE DOOR.)

  • LOST FOREST 1 is the only one of the five BLACK SPACE 2 areas that cannot be completed through an alternate entrance.
  • By remaining idle in the BLACK PLAYGROUND for approximately 42 seconds (2500 frames), OMORI will do one of three following idle animations, with an equal chance of any of them occurring. This is similar to the idle animation event from WHITE SPACE.
  • CLOUD WALKWAY's BEACH was originally going to be a subarea of this location.[2] It is unknown why this detail was changed.
  • RED HANDS can occasionally show up here. Attempting to walk towards them will cause them to move away into the shadows.
  • The tree that appears in the FOREST CLEARING subarea presumably represents the one MARI was hung from, made evident by the shadowy vision of SUNNY'S DAD chopping down the tree while disowning SUNNY by telling him that he is not his son.
  • Since the room in the FOREST CLEARING is the exact same in the HANGMAN hole event as it is in the LOST FOREST, if the man was interacted first in the HANGMAN event to prompt his first line of dialogue, he will always say his second line of dialogue even after coming across the room again for the first time in the LOST FOREST.
    • The shadowy figure that appears there is named Dad in the RPG Maker MV project.
  • In an unused event, a polaroid would appear in the BLACK PLAYGROUND, and after picking it up, another polaroid would appear in ROOM WITH HELLMARI. Unlike the one in the BLACK PLAYGROUND, "It's a picture of you." would be displayed when picking up this polaroid, and it would reappear before having been picked up five times. It is unknown why this was unused.
    • It is possible that this unused event was a placeholder for the "Fear Polaroid Sequence" in console releases of the game.
BS Duck Pond (Unused)
  • A duck originally would appear to the south of the pond in the ENDLESS MINECART. Interacting with the duck led to it swimming in the pond. This was removed for unknown reasons but can still be viewed through the game's data.
  • The two rooms in the BLACK PLAYGROUND presumably hold deeper meanings to the game's overarching plot:
    • ROOM WITH HELLMARI indicates that despite SUNNY attempting to escape the truth in his dreams, his guilt will forever haunt him. This is evident with HELLMARI floating above him, alluding to SOMETHING silently tormenting SUNNY even after the latter attempted to repress any evidence of MARI's death in his mind.
    • WALKING ROOM could symbolize SUNNY becoming more distant with his former friends, being unable to reach them as he already paid the price for not trying to reconnect with them on the OMORI ROUTE. It also implies that SUNNY will never repair his bonds with them, now that OMORI is in control of his entire body.
  • Inspecting the sleeping SUNNY in PLAYER ROOM WITH HELLMARI reveals that "this person is breathing steadily." However, collecting the polaroid that triggers the special event will change him into MARI. Inspecting MARI will reveal that "this person is not breathing," a line that is also used when inspecting MARI in her bed during the TRUTH sequence.
