— OMOCAT

OMOCAT is an illustrator and Vtuber known for a variety of works ranging from very personal art and comics, to partnerships with famous companies like Crypton Future media and Hololive production. In addition to being an artist, they run their own website/online store with a very successful clothing line featuring their original artwork as well as collaborations with other independent artists. Their most recent projects are OMORI, a project that has been on their mind since the start of their career, and a collaboration with a Vtuber group, Hololive Gamers, producing a line of clothing and accessories.

ABOUT

OMOCAT makes what they want to exist.

OMOCAT's personal work is evoked by misunderstanding caused by the generation gap in this world of rampant technology and by the constant oppression they faced in their early years imposed by other's ideas of etiquette, beauty, and restrictions of being a girl.

Like many, they find it easier to relate to fictional characters as opposed to real people. Consequently, their fan work gives meaning to something that many think of as solely entertainment.

Above all, OMOCAT wants to make things that are meaningful. They use their work to spread their truths and to emit just a bit of hope. They want you to know that even in this world where you are told to stop watching cartoons and grow up, told that anime isn't real art and games are only for the lazy, told that you have to pretend to be someone else to be accepted; and where dreams are carefully crafted and then revealed to have a strict time limit, that it is possible to live by doing what you love.

TRIVIA

  • OMOCAT’s name was created by taking the first three letters of Omoriboy’s (From the webcomic, “Omoriboy” 2011-2012) name and adding “cat” to it. Omoriboy states that, “omori is short for hikikomori. the first three letters also correspond with those of my creator. she thinks she’s so clever.”[2]
