SPACE EX-HUSBAND is an enemy in OMORI, and the final change of CAPT. SPACEBOY's identity, isolated at the peak of SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN after his divorce with SWEETHEART. He can only be fought on ONE DAY LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE after the player clears BLACK SPACE.

SPACE EX-HUSBAND shares the same appearance as SPACE EX-BOYFRIEND, having the same blue skin, green hair, and his altered outfit. His battle sprites show his color scheme completely empty and stripped of his color scheme. However, depending on the EMOTION he takes on, SPACE EX-HUSBAND's battle sprite will show him either with a HAPPY, SAD, or ANGRY expression.
SPACE EX-HUSBAND's most notable feature is a hole on the left side of his chest, where the bandages covering his heart should be. The hole appears to be leaking endless drops of blood to show how devastated CAPT. SPACEBOY became after his second breakup with SWEETHEART.
PERSONALITY[]
Possessing a cold demeanor and emotionally despondent, SPACE EX-HUSBAND lacks any of his original self's traits. Having no will to continue living, SPACE EX-HUSBAND loses all purpose and desires to die alone as he is too broken to even do anything. He often tends to recall any of his memories with SWEETHEART, deeply missing her presence despite the suffering he had to go through when married to her.
However, if the party manages to defeat him in battle, SPACE EX-HUSBAND returns to his old state but is still saddened over losing SWEETHEART once again. He presumably regains his old personality once PINKBEARD convinces him to go back to being the leader of the SPACE PIRATES.
STORY[]
After OMORI and friends successfully defeat SWEETHEART in her battle, SPACE EX-BOYFRIEND will come rushing to the scene in his spaceship, apologizing to her and quickly asking for her hand in marriage. She accepts, and they soon are immediately married, rushing off out of the castle in the same spaceship the newly titled SPACE HUSBAND had arrived on. Later on in the story SWEETHEART reveals that the two of them had gotten divorced less than a day later.
SPACE EX-HUSBAND is first encountered with his team of SPACE PIRATES in MUSTARD SUB in the UNDERWATER HIGHWAY. SPACE EX-HUSBAND dedicates a song to the heartbroken and performs it on the small stage, with his crew watching him and cheering him on from the seats. The song he performs is similar to the song on his SPECIAL MIXTAPE.
The battle and meeting with SPACE EX-HUSBAND, an OMORI ROUTE exclusive, shows his state after his divorce with SWEETHEART. He has isolated himself at the very top of the freezing SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN, claiming to have become one with the ice and sealed his heart away. Throughout the battle he expresses sadness over the end of their relationship, happiness over the good times they had, and anger over the way she's treated him.
After his defeat, SPACE EX-HUSBAND returns home, giving the party his WEDDING RING as he no longer has a use for it anymore. Back home, PINKBEARD talks some sense into him, reminding him that his crew and family will always be around for him and there's no need to do something as silly as changing his name on a whim. His defeat will grant the player the See you, Space Husband... achievement.

Every turn, each enemy will start by trying to use the skill listed at the top. If the calculation fails, they move on to the second skill and so on, until reaching the final skill which is guaranteed to activate. Each calculation is done independently from the previous ones, so the added percentage is not 100%.
STRATEGY[]
Like many of the other OMORI ROUTE exclusive battles, SPACE EX-HUSBAND's fight is a tricky one, with its own unique spin on use of the EMOTIONS system. He will automatically start the fight in his NEUTRAL state, and in this condition is near untouchable by the player.
In order to deal any considerable damage, you must break him out of his NEUTRAL state, but you have to pay attention to the memories he recalls during the battle, and use various attacks and items to make him feel an emotion that corresponds with that memory. The corresponding emotion is fairly obvious (see QUOTES for matching memories and emotions), and each team member should have an emotion-inflicting move equipped for this fight. OMORI's SAD POEM, KEL's ANNOY, AUBREY's PEP TALK, and HERO's DAZZLE are JUICE-efficient skills for this purpose.
If the party fails to give SPACE EX-HUSBAND the correct EMOTION, he will remain NEUTRAL, giving another chance after two turns. However, succeeding in giving him the correct EMOTION will allow him to take damage, staying in said EMOTION for two turns. Afterwards, he will eventually CALM DOWN.
If you want to make the most of your turns, bring a fair stock of SPARKLERs, POETRY BOOKs and PRESENTs. When EX-HUSBAND starts recalling a memory, line up all your party's damaging moves, but have KEL be the one to inflict the emotion. Unless your other party members have a SPEED advantage, KEL will break open EX-HUSBAND's defenses first while everyone else piles on after him.
EX-HUSBAND, while he is NEUTRAL, cannot be damaged with ordinary attacks/skills (even with skills that ignore DEFENSE) but he is vulnerable to items, skills and friendly follow-ups which can inflict a fixed damage (for example, BIG RUBBER BAND, SUFFOCATE or RELEASE ENERGY). In this state he is also vulnerable to all debuffs, such as STARE, SMILE, POWER HIT. It is also recommended to accumulate ENERGY (using RALLY, JUICE ME, HEADBUTT, ROTTEN MILK), apply buffs to the team (FLEX, GATOR AID, SNO-CONE, MILK), heal, and restore JUICE during this time.

- In the game's data, it is shown that SPACE EX-HUSBAND's emotion stats can go all the way up to the third-stage emotions. This makes him, OMORI, and BASIL the only characters with three third-stage emotions in-game.
- However, even if SPACE EX-HUSBAND reaches a second or third-tier emotion, his battle sprite does not change from the initial emotion sprite he had before nor does his overall stats change either.
- SPACE EX-HUSBAND is the only boss in the game who has mechanics that revolve around the NEUTRAL emotion. He is also the only boss to have fully unique sprites and pose changes dedicated to each emotion.
- SPACE EX-HUSBAND is one of the four HEADSPACE bosses with three-stage emotions, being able to have all three (MANIC, MISERABLE, and FURIOUS). The other three that possess this mechanic consist of SPACE EX-BOYFRIEND, SWEETHEART, and the UNBREAD TWINS.
- Prior to the version 1.0.1 update on December 31st, 2020, SPACE EX-HUSBAND's overworld sprite wasn't polished enough and looked rather incomplete in comparison to the current one used in the latest updates of the game.
- The bandages on the left side of CAPT. SPACEBOY's chest have been replaced with a gaping hole in this battle. This is likely representing his metaphorical "broken heart" — though it also may have been caused by SWEETHEART, as one of his ANGRY quotes seems to refer to physical violence and abuse from her ("It's my SWEETHEART... but she's...swinging her mace at me!").
- There is an unused battle dialogue "I GAVE HER MY HEART AND SHE THREW IT AWAY SO EASILY!".
- It can be seen in SPACE EX-HUSBAND's battle sprites that he got a second gun at some point when compared to SPACE BOYFRIEND's battle sprite.
- Earlier versions of the game allowed for RELEASE ENERGY to bypass SPACE EX-HUSBAND'S damage prevention while NEUTRAL. This has since been patched ever since version 1.0.2 of the game.
- In non-English versions of the game, SPACE EX-HUSBAND can be damaged by RELEASE ENERGY while NEUTRAL and there is no flash when his EMOTION changes. This is an oversight as the two special mechanics only work when the enemy is named as "SPACE EX-HUSBAND", and the strings in the code have not been translated.
