— TELESCOPES

TELESCOPES are a game mechanic featured in OMORI. They are usually stationed in various areas of HEADSPACE, and interacting with them grants the player an option to view a location's faraway viewpoint.

OVERVIEW[]

Telescope (View)

The texture used when viewing through a telescope in-game.

When interacting with them, a text boxt will appear, giving the player a prompt to look through the TELESCOPE. Doing so will change the player's perspective to a party member's through the TELESCOPE. There is a total of five TELESCOPES scattered throughout HEADSPACE.

The four that allows players to see a specific view are required to interact for unlocking The view is pretty nice... achievement, which is only available in the OMORI ROUTE. These locations consist of OTHERWORLD, ORANGE OASIS, UNDERWATER HIGHWAY, and SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN. The other one can be used to access one of the secret BLACK SPACE entrances on the same route.

LOCATIONS[]

OTHERWORLD[]

This telescope can be found through OTHERWORLD OUTSKIRTS, located east of the campsite and next to the lake. It is stationed up north and using it allows you to view OTHERWORLD's starry view. Interacting with it is necessary to unlock the aforementioned achievement.

ORANGE OASIS[]

This telescope is found within the top-left corner of ORANGE OASIS, located north of DINO'S DIG. It is stationed near one of the floating mirrors and the TREASURE MAP item. Using it allows you to view ORANGE OASIS' food pyramid and the sandy landscape of the area. Interacting with it is necessary to unlock the aforementioned achievement.

UNDERWATER HIGHWAY[]

This telescope is found within DEEP WELL's TOLL ROAD, positioned west of a floating mirror and next to the NPC DIVING MAN. Using it allows you to view DEEP WELL's aquatic view, a nighttime city, and several mountains up ahead. Interacting with it necessary to unlock the aforementioned achievement.

SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN[]

This telescope is found within the upper segments of the mountain, located east from one of the floating mirrors. Using it allows you to view the snowy atmopshere of SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN. Interacting with it necessary to unlock the aforementioned achievement.

NORTH LAKE[]

Though it doesn't count as a telescope, there is a pair of binoculars found within the top floor of NORTH LAKE's lighthouse. From there, you can use it to view the FOGGY SEA. This will change the player’s perspective to OMORI’s through the binoculars. From there, the player can slowly view the vast view of NORTH LAKE’s foggy surroundings.

If the player's WTF VALUE is set equal or greater than 6, moving the binoculars down at the bottom left corner will reveal SOMETHING hovering over the waters.

When viewing the entity, SOMETHING will not disappear as it usually does. It will instead continue to stare at the player, even if you decide to take your eyes off of it. However, if the player decides to use the binoculars again, SOMETHING cannot be found again in the spot it was briefly found at.

SWEETHEART'S CASTLE[]

This telescope is hidden within SWEETHEART's dungeon area, located in the upper-rightmost cell where SPACE EX-BOYFRIEND was once locked up at. Interacting with it will simply lead to text box reading "A telescope... but the lens is covered with tape."

However, interacting with it again on ONE DAY LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE grants a chance to access a secret BLACK SPACE entrance. Though, there is a 1/99 chance of the entrance working. When the telescope works, the player can view a dark, foggy atmosphere. Exiting the viewpoint transports OMORI to one of the five primary BLACK SPACE 2 areas: the CLOUD WALKWAY. This can only work one time.

TRIVIA[]

Dark Colored Telescope
  • In the 2019 build of the game, there were originally telescopes available within OTHERWORLD CAMPSITE (named OTHERWORLD TOWN), the DEEP WELL construction area, and in BLACK SPACE via a stump.
  • In the game's files, there exists a dark-colored version of the TELESCOPE. It is unknown what this was going to be used for but it was likely planned to be used for the telescope event in the unused map BASIL'S RESPITE.
